Being a home body might have a whole new meaning…
For Loretta, the hits keep coming, even when the woman who grew up hitting her is no longer living. She’d given up everything to come back home and take care of her abuser, but her mother still couldn’t give her the affection or recognition she deserved.
Desperate for change and running out of savings, Loretta takes a housekeeping job despite the red flags she can see for herself, and the warnings from those close to her. The quirky old owner and the house itself seem harmless at first, but the unsettling steadily grows. Just as the garden maze behind it grows too.
Every day starts with a list of chores placed in the mailbox. Small things at first. Normal duties for a housekeeper. Then comes strange grooming requests, ones invasive enough to test the waters.
The house punishes disobedience from its keepers, but Loretta is done accepting torment from her abusers.
What Worked:
- Characters were superbly crafted
- Slow burning horror that didn't resort to shock value scenes
- So many layers, both past and present
What Needed Work:
- A few dangling plot threads
- Some twists felt too telegraphed
